Overview

The village of Carcabuey in La Subbética Natural Park, is the old family home of this villa's owner. With such beautiful surroundings— panoramic views of olive groves, gentle hills of Mediterranean forest and Carcabuey itself, with its church and medieval castle—the owner dreamed of returning one day.

And finally the dream has come true. This breathtaking villa sympathetically incorporates the remains of a ruined 15th century shrine. The location is peaceful and calm, as befitting a historical place of meditation, in a place of natural beauty. The original plan of the chapel has been used for the floor plan of the house today.

To get to the house you drive a short distance from Carcabuey village, through olive groves, and leave your car at the covered parking area on the property.

The villa is minimalist and yet still full of character.

You enter the house from either the entrance porch, or a covered dining terrace, into a spacious living room, with dining area, where all is glass and light. The living room has used the old, natural stone walls as a feature. This contrasts well with the clean, modern lines of the furnishings and staircase going up to the bedrooms.

The staircase takes you up to a mezzanine level which acts as an office area. 

This villas has four double bedrooms, three on the first floor and one on the ground floor. The ground floor bedroom has its own bathroom. The three bedrooms upstairs are bright. The master bedroom has its own en suite bathroom with a walk-in shower. The other two bedrooms share a bathroom between them.

The villa has a stunning 15 metre-long swimming pool. Not only that, the pool terrace is surrounded by breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside. The pool is lit at night and forms a romantic secluded scene with only the stars above.

The outside of this villa is just as delightful as the interior. There are various garden terraces for relaxing. Pieces of sculpture are dotted around and there is a little garden for fresh produce.

The dining veranda is a shaded place to eat meals al fresco and there are barbecue facilities for holiday cook-outs. For everyday cooking, the well equipped and modern kitchen is situated off the living area. It has all the amenities you'd expect in a quality kitchen.

The villa is superb but so is the location for enjoying the best that Andalucía has to offer.

Set on the edge of the Subbética Natural Park near Carcabuey this villa is the perfect rural Andalucian retreat. A carpet of olive trees spreads out in all directions, the views are mesmerizing and the total lack of light pollution means that you can enjoy the most spectacular night skies!

Carcabuey itself is an interesting village. In the castle is a hermitage with special devotion to Mary who it is believed miraculously heals the sick and lame. The walls are hung with crutches of people who no longer have use for them because of her healing powers. Although much older, the castle building that remains today is from the medieval period.

Iznajar lake, 50 minutes drive away, has fun inland beaches where you can sunbathe, swim, kayak, and enjoy drinks and tapas at the beach bars.

Here you are in the heart of Andalucia, and this is a perfect location from which to explore the world famous heritage sites of Córdoba, Granada, Ronda and Sevilla, all bursting with history, romance, power and splendour – not to mentions wonderful restaurants and shops!

And if you are a walker, don’t forget your walking shoes, as there are some great hikes in the area. Remember, if there is no fence you are free to wander, and there are many footpaths crisscrossing the countryside, you just need to know where to look.

The region is good for cycling too, not as mountainous as other regions, it lends itself to some great rides.

Outstanding property, fabulous swimming pool, views are off the scale. Lovely owner who brought us fresh vegetables from the garden. Good location for visiting places of interest (Cordoba, Granada etc) but remote enough to be very quiet (local village has no tourists)."
