Overview
The languid Mediterranean climate of the low Alpujarra is at its most enjoyable at this warm valley location by the River Guadalfeo. The villa is nicely hidden away in a natural hollow and surrounded by mature subtropical gardens on two different levels.
It’s all very fertile and colourful. Orange trees almost join hands around the pool and olive trees provide welcome shade elsewhere. There are views of Sierra Lujar mountain and the market town of Orgiva is just three minutes away by car.
The cortijo has a traditional Andalusian architectural style, open-plan to suit the climate. Inside, it is cheerful and sunny. The living area has an open fireplace and a dining table in one corner by the kitchen. There are is a twin bedroom and an unusual double bedroom in which the bed is ensconced in a rock cave for intimate cosiness!
Both bedrooms have views and doors to the terrace, and they are also interconnected indoors. The bathroom has very attractive Arabic tiling and the property maintains good standards of fittings and furnishing throughout. Double-glazing guards against extremes of heat and chill, with air conditioning or a log fire to choose from inside.
Outside, a raised terrace shaded by a beam-and-cane roof has quality wooden furnishings to enjoy meals prepared in the kitchen or on the barbecue, while gazing out at Sierra Lujar.
It extends to an open terrace, which is the only spot where another house can be seen in the distance, otherwise the property and its gardens and the pool are very private, and previous guests have commented on the seclusion here.
In its quintessentially peaceful spot, this villa has been one of our longest-running holiday homes in the Orgiva area. The swimming pool is delicious (it’s gated for children’s safety) and there's plenty of lawned garden space for children to kick a ball around or play. The gardens also have night time illumination, making walking to the house easy if you happen to come home late.
It’s easy to nip into town from here – you can even walk it when the sun’s not too strong – and more interesting hiking is just up the mountain road to the high Alpujarra.
Granada and the Alhambra are just over three-quarters of an hour away and beaches at the Costa Tropical even closer.
Location
Subtropical gardens in river valley outside market town. Low Alpujarras region.
In private grounds just 1.5 kms from Orgiva town (all facilities). Access via short rural track of about 50 meters. Restaurants 5 mins walk away.

Such a beautiful property with stunning mountain views and privacy. The house was unique, lovely quirky features that gave the house great character. The house has a large garden with separate areas for relaxing. Honestly we have stayed in many properties abroad, and this definitely was the best. We loved the area and surrounding mountain villages."
+ Read moreThe property was perfect for our family - a fantastic pool with plenty of shallows for our seven year olds, great outdoor sitting, cooking, and dining spaces, plenty of shade from the beautiful trees and vines, and gorgeous views of the hills. It’s really a wonderful spot. We didn’t want to leave! Ollie was super friendly and the information pack has helpful suggestions for local restaurants and shopping in the town, which is just a few minutes drive up the hill. Would recommend this property a hundred times over! Thank you for a brilliant holiday."

+ Read moreOnce you have navigated the short but steep strack down from the main road you will find a wonderful little cottage in a sheltered but sunny valley surrounded by orange and lemon trees and with its own adjacent private pool. Beautifuly appointed, a real home from home, cheerfully presented by its owner on arrival. Cool inside, this lovingly restored cottage has a delightful shady patio draped in a grape vine and a terrace and lawned areas for games, relaxation or sunbathing, much of it very private indeed. Highly recommended."
