Overview
Nestled in rural Andalucía, this villa results from a seven-year, passion-fueled restoration of a 400-year-old ruin. It offers a holistic retreat where traditional charm meets modern convenience.
Moroccan-inspired decor, artisan touches, and expansive, multi-level gardens provide an immersive experience.
From the moment you arrive, it’s clear that no photo could ever capture the magic of this property. More than just a villa, this is a wholesome experience born from seven years of nonstop restoration work on a 400-year-old ruin.
The love and effort poured into every detail—from the tasteful Moroccan style and organic warmth to the artistic accents throughout—make this a standout retreat.
Every corner of the villa reflects careful thought. The gardens, spread over several terraces, invite exploration with their semiwild charm and unexpected features (including a uniquely crafted wooden outdoor toilet that’s as quirky as it is memorable).
As day turns to night, the owner’s expertise as a lighting technician shines through: outdoor spaces are bathed in spectacular, well-planned illumination that enhances the artistic vibe.
Inside, modern comforts blend seamlessly with historic character. Guests will enjoy a fully equipped kitchen featuring a premium SMEG cooker range with dual ovens and a smart dishwasher boasting an ultra-fast 2-minute cycle. High-speed WiFi and a quality Bluetooth sound system ensure connectivity. At the same time, a furnished terrace adjacent to the kitchen offers fantastic views—perfect for al fresco dining or a quiet moment with a glass of wine.
Innovative design touches continue with an internal patio and a traditional fountain that, using Moroccan cooling techniques, keeps the home refreshingly cool during the summer months—all without resorting to air conditioning.
There are a couple of practical points to consider, however. Arriving by car can be a bit tricky, with parking requiring a careful reverse manoeuvre, though alternative parking is available just a short distance away.
Additionally, the property’s layout—with unprotected drops near certain outdoor areas and steps leading into the pool—means it may not be ideally suited for unsupervised small children.
Location is another highlight. Set in a genuine, peaceful rural environment, the villa offers breathtaking panoramas: on clear days, one can see across the distant sea and even Morocco. Looking to the north, the snow-capped Sierra Nevada mountains rise directly above us.
While the property itself offers good privacy, we are just outside a sleepy hamlet. The larger village of Carataunas, with a few bars and restaurants, is a 15-minute (uphill) stroll away, and the market town of Orgiva, with full facilities, is just a 10-minute drive.
Nature lovers and walkers will delight in nearby trails, notably the scenic Poqueira Gorge in national park territory. Essential day trips to Granada, the Alhambra Palace, and the Tropical Coast, with its famed fish bars, are only 45 minutes away.
In summary, if you and your group seek a holiday that blends rich history, artistic design, modern comforts, and a dash of adventure, this villa offers an unforgettable escape.
It’s a perfect choice for those who appreciate the beauty of careful restoration and the excitement of exploring Andalucía’s diverse landscapes.
