This property is within walking distance of an attractive village and a short driving distance to natural parkland with plenty of activities to plan. Overview
Here we have a unique opportunity to stay in a luxury villa with all the facilities of a 5-star hotel but with everything to ourselves: no sharing, total privacy and breathtaking views.
After a long process of years of almost exclusive dedication by its Dutch property owners and with a clear commitment to offering guests quality, sustainability and excellence, this accommodation was inaugurated in 2023.
The property owners fell in love with this enclave. They were fascinated by its possibilities for tourism with a season that, as they say, always tends to be extended, and you can go in shorts and enjoy the summer terraces three seasons a year.
During our visit to the accommodation, they explained to us ideas on how they would manage different groups and needs, from those who do not require more services than those included in the accommodation itself to those who may require additional assistance to complete their stay, whether it be active, cultural or gastronomic tourism.
They also detailed their environmental policy, which bases most of their energy consumption on their resources.
The house is effortless to reach by car. Although we have no neighbours and will feel isolated, we are a 10-minute walk from at least one restaurant and 12 minutes from the picturesque village square of Galera with bars, restaurants and their terraces, and a traditional bakery or a small supermarket.
The accommodation is divided into a rear cave house with seven bedrooms, an indoor heated pool, a Finnish sauna or even a Turkish bath! On the other side, we have the main house with the rest of the bedrooms and kitchen / living / dining room.
We found the cave bedrooms a delight to rest in because of their isolation from the noise of the rest of the house and because of the comfortable temperature that these cave spaces usually have without the need for air conditioning. The word cave may not do justice to the attractiveness of these rooms, which have high ceilings and are decorated with natural elements.
The kitchen is another remarkable element, an open-plan living and dining space with large windows and sliding doors up to 4 metres long, allowing outdoor and indoor living to merge elegantly. It is a modern and chic space, simple yet elegant and practical.
To enjoy the extraordinary number of hours of sunshine a year this region gets, we get terraces that alternate between sun and shade, whether you want to lie down or sit and eat.
You need to know the region of Granada where this accommodation is located to fully understand the scenic and cultural variety of this province that was once the Kingdom.
Thanks to luxury accommodations such as this, or the appearance of reputable restaurants and signature wines, this region of the Altiplano is gaining prominence both inside and outside Spain. Gastronomy and unique landscapes leave no one indifferent and are no longer as unknown as they were until recently, but still a great off-the-beaten-track place for holidays.
Amongst our list of favourite activities in the area, we have the following:
-The Thursday market in the village of Huéscar. It is a 10-minute drive away. We think it's excellent and very authentic.
-The village of Galera is a 12-minute walk away via a rural track or road and has very lovely terraces, a picturesque church and viewpoints —an excellent plan for an afternoon.
-The "great trekking" to follow the footprints of the first hominids that populated the European continent through breathtaking landscapes. It passes through Galera itself.
-Horse riding in these landscapes, you will feel like Indiana Jones.
-Castril Natural Park: impressive rivers and ravines, a unique protected natural area.
-The Badlands of Granada: the incredible Gorafe Desert, a fantastic place. There are also official Badlands in nearby Castillejar (10 mins away).
-The site of Castellón Alto, the remains of a village to see what daily life was like in an Argaric settlement more than 3500 years BC.
Location
Granada Geopark (declared UNESCO Geopark since 2010). A UNESCO Global Geopark is a space of international geological significance. This is an area of badlands/deserts/canyons.
In open countryside opposite the village of Galera (12 minutes walk away). Easy access via a short rural track from a country lane.

We were a group of 8 couples with children, and each of us had our own room with a bathroom. The outdoor space featured a pool, jacuzzi, porch, barbecue, and inside, saunas and a pool. The rooms were spacious, with perfectly equipped private bathrooms. The kitchen was spectacular and cosy. Located in a natural and tranquil setting that was very pleasant. Just a 3-minute drive or 10-minute walk from the village with all the services one could need. We hope to repeat soon!
