Overview
Sometimes true Spanish holidays are all about simple pleasures, and this cozy little village casa close to the soaring Picos de Europa, captures that authentic feel.
The village is charming offering its own tiny cheese factory which whips up fabulous artisan goats cheese.
From your front door, you can breathe in the scent of orange and lemon trees, and wander down to the wild local rivers to swim.
The air is alpine fresh, the climate mild, and everything feels calm and quiet.
The house has a simple feel, free from airs and graces but comfortable.
Stretched out over three floors you will find good sized rooms with some lovely features like old stone walls, a wood burning fire, and exposed beam ceilings.
Rather than a full-scale kitchen, this property offers a compact kitchenette gracefully tucked inside a cupboard and adequate for preparing simple meals. Yet with excellent homecooked food being dished out in the village restaurant only a minute from your door – you can take a break from cooking.
Bedrooms offer ensuite facilities, it is worth noting that to get to the twin room on the second floor you need to pass through the first-floor double room, perfect for children sharing a space.
A highlight of the pretty little property must be its semi wild and untamed garden. Sitting out in the evening light in your own private small field with a picnic supper and bottle of wine is a moment steeped in romance.
Being so close to the Picos Mountains ensures that all around you will find adventure and exploration.
In less than 20 minutes you can find yourself relaxing on the sandy shores of Northern Spain’s brilliant beaches.
This little village is also perched close to the border of Cantabria, meaning that less than half an hour and you have a whole new side of Spain to discover with its own evocative cuisine and changing climate: the Liebana mountain region.
This is a great base for those who want their own little space sketched out in the countryside without the frills or fuss.
Rustical Travel will also send guests a guide to the region – to help you find the prettiest walks, the best beaches, and incredible adventures right on your doorstep.

Valley countryside half way between the coast and Picos de Europa.

+ Read moreWe had a wonderful holiday. The booking arrangements were excellent - no problems at all. The cottage is beautiful, and Jose was helpful, friendly, and kind. It was a lovely week and our first experience of Northern Spain. Thank you very much. Russell Harris"
+ Read moreThe fridge is dirty and mouldy. I had to clean it inside before putting my food in. Also rust on the shelves, dirty on the outside and more mould round the rubber on the door. It seemed was taken from the tip and put in the house. Please replace it and don't have the freezer box, is not useful when left defrosting for the arrival of a guest, it happened to me. In both showers there is mould on the tiles and vey dirty/mouldy shower heads and we didn’t want to touch them. Imagine dreading to have a shower after a day out and about on the beach, etc. There is a smell of mould when we opened the cupboards. It is such a shame because the location and the house itself is great. Cantabria and Asturias spectacular. By the way I have the photos to prove the issues and willing to email them to you. Please don't rent a place like that. Thank you"
Rustical Update
To follow up on the conversations between our Homeowners department and this property owner, we were told on 29 August 2023 that there were small amounts of mould in certain places, and this was cleaned/removed.
Is as idyllic as it looks. Would highly recommend. Great location between Picos and the coast."
+ Read moreThe owner of the property has designed the house to be comfortable and stylish with all the essentials for a self catering holiday as well as lovely decorative touches such as rustic furnishings and fresh flowers. We would definitely stay again as the location is also a perfect blend of quiet village with access to both mountains and beaches within a very short distance.
+ Read moreWe had a wonderful holiday and I would highly recommend this property. It felt like a well-loved home with nicely displayed antiques and art, not a sterile holiday rental, and was immaculately clean. Very peaceful and in a beautiful location with a great (local cuisine) restaurant just a few steps away. Easy to reach great beaches and superb mountain trails. The kitchen is tiny so we feel this house is probably better suited to just one couple (like us) or a couple with small kids (also the staircase passes through the bedroom on first floor to reach the one on second floor, so there is not so much privacy). But, for a tiny kitchen it was very well thought out and well equipped. Spacious bedrooms and nice shower rooms. Jose was very welcoming and he had clothes washed for us (no washing machine in house) which was a treat. Thank you Jose. We would certainly go there again as a week was not long enough to see/do everything we wanted."
+ Read moreWe had a great time, it was a bit of a last minute booking and we were using the house as a base. It was our first time in Northern Spain and a bit of a fact finding trip. The location was great with good access to the major roads. The accommodation was comfortable, the shower although far from styllish had exceptional pressure and plenty of hot water. We enjoy a catering challenge and have previously used a kitchen in a wardrobe and had some fantastic meals - certainly ddi not impede our culinary adventures! Although a corkscrew should be an essential. Enjoyed sitting out in the sunshine by the front door and in the garden across the road. Might have been handy to known how to get the daily bread van to stop and deliver. Had a good time."
Rustical Update
We have been informed by the property manager that there is a corkscrew at the villa. Also, for any local queries, the property manager informed us that he is available to assist guests if they have doubts or questions.
We had a lovely stay at cozy casita. Whilst the house was compact the bedroom was very spacious. It was a great location close to the mountains and beautiful beaches, surf beaches included. A car is essential because although the house is not far from well serviced towns it is quite remote. The nearby restaurant and pub were closed mostly whilst we were there but that didn’t worry us because we were able to do our own cooking. Our host Jose was very helpful with providing maps and suggestions on activities nearby. He communicated very well so check in was easy. He also arranged our washing using his own machine which was much appreciated."
+ Read moreHello, we really enjoyed our holiday at AT30. We think Rustical travel is very good and organised and efficient and would definitely consider using it again. The living area of the house was too small for four people and the kitchen very difficult to cook in. We really missed an oven and a dishwasher but I realise space is an issue. The rooms were spacious and well equipped. Comfortable beds lovely and clean. The bathrooms were clean and well presented except that shower curtains are not pleasant and would much prefer a door/screen. Unfortunately both bathrooms smelt a little of drains and there was a slight leak from the shower in the lower bedroom into the kitchen. The downstairs bedroom was dark so a little more lighting would be good. The laundry service was fantastic and lovely to have the house cleaned half way through the week. Many thanks."
Rustical Update
We have informed the property manager about the shower and he is already aware of it. He said he will inform future clients about how to proceed when using that shower to prevent the water from spilling (apparently it is just a matter of being careful to avoid the water from spilling through the shower curtain). He also informed us that he will put more powerful lightbulbs in the downstair bedroom.
We enjoyed our week at AT30. It is cosy but with plenty of space for two people. It is well equipped comfortable. The property is within easy access of the mountains, beach and shopping, but also quiet and secluded. The owner was friendly and helpful."
+ Read moreWe loved Jose's place, it was very cozy sitting by the fire and the bedroom upstairs was very spacious and also cozy! The kitchen is small, but it has a stove, sink, fridge/freezer :) Buelles is a very small village in Asturias, and you can hear the birds and cow bells - wonderfully rustic and charming! Apparently the restaurant just beside the apartment is fantastic and authentic Asturian food, but we didn't get a chance to check it out. Would recommend highly and hope to come back!"
