Overview

It’s not always easy to find a one-bedroom cottage that offers privacy, its own enclosed gardens, and the convenience of being close to a town — but this 100-year-old Asturian cottage manages all three beautifully.

Set in a tiny hamlet just outside Infiesto, it provides the tranquillity of a countryside retreat while keeping facilities within easy reach.

This is a romantic getaway for couples, arranged on two floors and full of rustic charm: exposed stone walls, wooden beams, a cosy fireplace, and a wonderfully spacious bedroom that opens onto a terrace overlooking the gardens and surrounding greenery. The cottage faces south, making it bright and inviting throughout the year.

Outdoor living is one of its strong points. With two terraces and a fully enclosed private garden, you’ll always find a quiet corner to sit, read, sunbathe or enjoy a long outdoor meal. The setting is peaceful, surrounded by meadows and nature, with walking routes starting right at your doorstep.

Although the cottage is just outside Infiesto, many guests do walk the 25–30 minutes into town along quiet country lanes. By car it’s only 3 minutes, and the location becomes exceptional for day trips: you’re perfectly positioned to explore several of Asturias’ most impressive natural areas — not only the famous Picos de Europa, but also the unique reserves of Redes, Ponga and Sueve.

This area is also rich in places for wild swimming, with rivers and natural pools hidden in lush valleys backed by dramatic peaks. These are the kinds of idyllic spots that feel far from the world, yet are only a short drive from the cottage.

A beach day is about 40 minutes away, and picturesque fishing villages like Lastres are roughly 45 minutes. If you’d like to explore cities, both Oviedo — described by Woody Allen as “a delicious, exotic, beautiful, clean, pleasant, tranquil and pedestrianised city” — and the vibrant coastal city of Gijón are easy to reach.

You’re also in the heart of the Comarca de la Sidra (the “Cider Shire”), one of the most culturally distinctive areas of Asturias. The local sidrerías — with their traditional cider pouring (“escanciado”) and lively, authentic atmosphere — are a must-experience. It’s a unique ritual deeply rooted in Asturian identity and not to be missed.

Closer to home, you can enjoy simple pleasures: local museums, nearby river kayaking, hiring bikes, or shopping at street markets and farm stalls to experience Asturian produce and traditions. Particularly worth mentioning is the Clock and Watchmaking Museum in Infiesto — a unique local treasure.

We were pleased to see that Infiesto also has a railway stop, which means you can even travel to Ribadesella by train for a different kind of day out.

Our only warning: one week may not feel long enough. This is a cottage that invites slow mornings, scenic walks, quiet afternoons in the garden, and unhurried exploration of Asturias — a perfect balance for couples seeking both privacy and adventure.
