Overview
Much more than a simple holiday home, this property has been created with top quality local materials, equipped to a very high standard and furnished for maximum comfort.
It represents the opportunity to explore the secrets of rural Cantabria in Green Spain from particularly impressive lodgings, for from here spread out the panoramic Pasiego valleys with delightful vistas, rambling walks, and historic popular and ecclesiastical architecture.
You'll be delving into an extensive and delightful corner of Northern Spain that very few people know exists, stopping off in villages for inexpensive and excellent cooked meals. And don't miss out on the sponge desserts that Cantabria is well known for.
The hamlet is charmingly pleasant, with just a little bar to ensure basic needs are met. Just 4 km away are shops, restaurants and other facilities in the attractive spa town of Puente Viesgo (population 2,650). It was habitable even 150,000 years ago, as the famed prehistoric cave paintings here go to show.
The setting is of green grazing fields and forest around the village, with rolling hills and rocky mountains as a backdrop.
The house is located on the hamlet's peaceful thoroughfare. We were surprised by its spaciousness and pleased by its high standards. Solid traditional materials of oak, chestnut and local stone are softened and brightened with colourful cushions and curtains, quality finishing and furnishings. There is attention to detail in every corner with antiques, well thought-out lighting, and decoration to match.
A hallway, rustic and welcoming, leads to a high-ceilinged living room, whose most striking feature is its tremendous view over hills and pastures through a massive window.
Living and dining areas are furnished to make evenings a real pleasure. Meals at the large oak table may be rounded off by a spell on the excellent leather sofa in front of a wide-screen TV.
The country kitchen has everything you need and an old-fashioned range to boot.
Off the hallway is the kind of stylishly decorated bedroom you would expect of a boutique hotel. The floor and ceiling are of thick chestnut and it is painted in a soft green tone. This and the other three bedrooms have en suite shower rooms.
A solid wooden staircase takes you upstairs to two bedrooms, both sizeable and full of classy rustic touches. The double-bedded room has two balconies and a sitting/reading area; the other room is twin-bedded and has sloping ceilings and a skylight.
The fourth bedroom is reached directly from the living room via an iron staircase forged by a well-known local artisan. It is also en suite and has south-facing french windows onto a balcony.
Location
Hamlet in green rolling hills and valleys. In the "Pasiego" region.
In a small hamlet (one bar with basic shop), 4 km from Puente Viesgo town (most facilities).

YOUR REVIEWS

+ Read moreWe thoroughly enjoyed our time at this villa, situated in a small, friendly village. The villa was spacious, well-equipped, and cool in the very hot weather that we experienced during our time there. The beds were extremely comfortable, as were the pillows. We really appreciated the fact that each bedroom had it's own en-suite. Staying here really gave us an insight into traditional Spanish life, and we loved it. The villagers were extremely friendly, even though we could not speak Spanish, and brought us free range eggs on several occasions. The baker delivered bread every day, and hung it on the door if we were out, and we really appreciated this. We were ideally placed for trips to the beach or into the surrounding countryside. We were able to go for walks direct from the Villa. We would highly recommend this villa."
+ Read moreHad a great time at this villa. We used it as a base for our motorcycling holiday and it was perfect. The villa is huge and with the downstairs games / BBQ room it was great for storing all the biking gear. Bedrooms are large, comfortable and all have en-suite facilities. Living room is massive with a great view of the mountains. Every day there was fresh bread delivered to our door (free) and on the first day one of the villagers brought us a dozen fresh eggs. The village is small with only a small bar/shop but the supermarket is only a 5 minute drive. The people were friendly and always said hello. The nearest restaurants and bars are in Puente Viesgo and are around a 40 minute walk unless you go in a car (5-10 min). We walked into town and got a Taxi back which was 15 Euro's. I would definitely recommend this place for a truly rustic holiday as i didn't see any other tourists in the village. A place to practice your Spanish."

+ Read moreWhat a wonderful and peaceful week my family and I had in this beautiful villa in a gorgeous hamlet. The villa is huge and with a bathroom in every bedroom there was never any queueing of course.. The beds were very comfortable and the linen fresh and lovely. We thought it was a lovely touch to bring us cakes and fresh bread on our arrival, then the bread arrived daily and was complimentary.. delicious too..one evening a man knocked on the door with a dozen fresh eggs as a gift from another villager..we never did actually find out who sent them. The little bar is an experience, almost like sitting in someones lounge. You can have a beer or whatever yout tipple is and leave with fresh ham, potatoes and fruit! a shop and bar AND lounge all rolled into one ..the owners and locals alike made us very welcome. On several occasions we lit the old wood burning stove at the villa and went back to basics with our cooking, it was wonderful. My Mum, Daughter and I went shopping for a day in Santander, it is a lovely city and well worth the visit, it only took 45 minutes to get there by car. All in all, a lovely time away in a beautiful setting. Our ages range from 23 to 70 and we all loved it. We will definitely use Rustical Travel again, the customer care was excellent from start to finish, Thank you.."
+ Read moreGreat house in a perfect setting. Spotlessly clean and had everything we needed. The table tennis was great. The locals were lovely too and our children enjoyed playing with the local children and learnt some Spanish to. Fresh bread delivered daily was delicious. Only one negative comment there was nowhere to sit outside we knew there was no garden but there would have been room to put a table and chairs outside as in such an amazing setting would have been really lovely to have been able to sit outside."
Rustical Update
From January 2020 there is now a picnic table bench outside at this property.
The villa was very well appointed, the view from the living room was wonderful, the bedrooms were tastefully decorated and clean, and each had an en-suite bathroom. The only thing that we missed was having an oven, and that was just a minor issue. There is a wood burning stove, however, the weather in summer would mean that is not an option. The Hamlet is easily accessible and there are many places to visit that are not too far to drive and on the way provide amazing scenery!"
