This off-the-beaten-track location is a popular destination for many nature lovers who want to avoid crowded tourist spots while still being close to some regional highlights.
The signposted local walks are a great way to explore the area. It is an exciting, bucolic location to discover on foot!
This house is the perfect spot to relax and enjoy outdoor living. The three-story house had a cosy family feel, with a fully fitted kitchen and a dining/living room that opened to outdoor areas.
In 2025, a new, refurbished terrace with a pergola and a built-in barbecue will provide an excellent spot for al fresco meals.
The attic floor has a beautiful living space. It's perfect for children to play and watch TV in.
Although located in a small village with another house next to it, it feels like a proper country home, more than just a village house.
The little village of Vilar may be light on services, but there are some great restaurants 2 km away, and the street market in nearby Reinosa town (10 minutes' drive away), once a week, is excellent for fresh vegetables and locally made cheeses.
The endearingly named Alto Campoo area is a high glacial valley home to red and roe deer, chamois, wild boar, birds of prey, and even bears and wolves. There are ancient oaks, and the walnut tree by the church in nearby Hoz (walking distance from the house) is believed to be the oldest in Spain.
Alto Campoo is well known for ancient relics and remains: the Roman path of Pesquera and the Roman city remains of Julióbriga, the cave church of Valverde, the nearby medieval castle of Argueso, the Iron Age settlements at Aradillos and the megaliths above the village of Mazandrero.
A half-hour drive will take you to the forests of Saja-Besaya, to water sports at the Ebro Reservoir, or to the ski resort, which also opens in summer for downhill biking, lifts up to the high peaks and treks into areas of natural splendour.
The journey to the villa takes one hour from Santander airport or the ferry. There are good beaches at Santander, too, if you don't mind the drive.

Spacious accommodation, clean, with very appealing decor. The service was impeccable. Highly recommended at 100%. It's situated very close to the Alto Campoo Ski Resort, and there are plenty of dining options in the area. Highly recommended for both winter and summer.
