The villa is very well equipped including a great sound system and a comprehensive tv package with every channel imaginable. The beds are comfortable and the water pressure delivers great showers. The dishwasher was replaced within 24 hours when it broke down. The hosts were attentive but not at all intrusive. They went out of their way to help us with any questions we had, including organising a taxi uplift. They recommended restaurants in the village and took us on a walking tour to get our bearings in the village. The villa is as advertised and a wonderful place to stay for a couple of weeks. There are several great restaurants and shops within walking distance. The views from the villa are fantastic. Vultures and other large birds can be seen soaring amazingly close to the villa and binoculars are on hand to enhance the viewing experience. I would highly rate the villa and hosts."

It’s hard to sum up how special this villa is. Let’s start with location - down a driveway extending out the bottom of Gaucin, you’d think you were much more rural, peace and quiet, circling swifts and birds of prey, and stunning views; but thanks to the cunning secret pathway, you’re about 10-15 mins walk from a good range of bars and restaurants and the cultural life of Gaucin. The pool was pretty cold when we arrived (mid May), but was getting steadily warmer each day. But who cares about temperature when the view is like the one here? It’s just about big enough for laps (eight strokes of light backstroke or moderate breaststroke) and does at least have 90degree walls for each turn around (and there will be many turn arounds!). The terrace by the pool is just wide enough for sun loungers, but you have other terraces to choose from if you want more space. Need a shady nook to curl up in a chair and read - there’s a garden space just for you. The villa is characterful, comfortable and comes equipped with everything you could need - I’ve never rented a villa that is more complete and thought through on that front. And Jonas and Elizabeth could not be kinder, more thoughtful hosts."

Excellent location. Very well equipped and spacious accommodation. Very easy access to Gaucin. Great swimming pool. Property well maintained. Fantastic views across the valley to Caseres, the coast, Gibraltar and North Africa. Great wildlife - vultures, oryx and even a local fox who came to visit."

Outstanding views and peaceful location. Owner stays in adjacent villa and called in regularly which some people might find off putting. Villa generally in good condition but could benefit from professional cleaning at the end of each tenancy rather than the owner having a wipe around. Gardens weren't swept from autumn leaf fall which wasa shame as they could have been quite pleasant areas to relax in. Overall, we were pleased with the location and accommodation but small improvements could have enhanced our rating."

If you are looking for a place to really get away from it all then this is perfect. The house and grounds are deceptively large and very secluded while Gaucin itself is quiet but also well equipped for eating out or in. Our host was excellent and was on hand for advice before and during our stay."

Views are amazing, better than photos as can’t do position and house justice. Owners very helpful. House beautiful - could benefit with air con upstairs when very hot but otherwise house and owners cater for everything you could possibly need. Village easy walk and lovely restaurants. Castle another great vantage point and beautiful. You will never stop being impressed by views right down to Gibraltar and Africa from all aspects of house. Great holiday."

We had a fantastic holiday at this wonderful villa. The villa is beautifully presented and positioned, with the most stunning views, and it was very clean, comfy and really well-equipped. Jonas was an excellent host, with a warm welcome and on-hand if we needed help. The pool and the villa were perfect for a really relaxing week, and the walk to lovely Gaucin was magical. Idyllic location, comfortable and extremely well-equipped villa, and a short walk from a beautiful village. The perfect place to retreat and relax. The location is stunning. The views are amazing. You are never bored as the view is ever changing. The couple who own and manage the house are warm and welcoming. If you want a do nothing break this is the place. After a busy seven days touring the house and location hit the spot. Things to consider. The are flights of steps all over the house and grounds. There were no night lights so getting up in the night to visit the bathroom or kitchen was tricky. The lower bedroom bed has no headboard so sitting up in bed was not possible. Something we like to do. The pool is very deep so you cannot stand and take in the view. It is a five star location along with owners, being an older couple it fell short in a few areas."

We had a wonderful stay at El Refugio! The property was well equipped and the location was second to none. It was wonderful to be able to walk into the village to shop or eat, but to have the peaceful solitude overlooking the valley and the coast when we came back. Jonas and Elizabeth were very friendly and welcoming. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and would definitely recommend it!"

El Refugio is the perfect Spanish retreat that offers peace, serenity and the most spectacular panoramic vista. It’s private setting on the edge of Gaucin makes it a truly special Villa that has to be stayed in to be fully appreciated. 10/10."

Jonas and Elizabeth's villa in Gaucin is a little piece of heaven tucked away in beautiful Spainish hills. I'm almost tempted to keep quiet it was so good, to make sure that there will be availability when we return (which we will). The views are spectacular, the house incredibly well set up, comfortable with everything you could wish for.
