Overview
This beautiful, three bedroom farmhouse is the essence of traditional Andalucían architecture. Just eight kilometres from the village of Gaucín, the villa is on a private estate of 120 acres of gorgeous countryside.
The owners lived in this house while their main residence was being built so the house has always been a comfortable family home.
The farmhouse is built all on one level and it shows off some typical traditional Andalucian features, whose origins are from the Roman country villa: whitewashed walls, red pan-tiled roof, grey stone floors—all around a central courtyard.
The classic layout proves the theory that simple forms contribute to tranquillity and restfulness.
The house itself is set in a meadow of wildflowers which, in spring, is a riot of colour. The track from the main road to the estate is well kept and easily navigable. There is a paddock just to the left of the house, it’s the home of a resident horse – Descente – he’s old and good natured (at the time this overview was written in 2022).
You enter into the central courtyard, which has another traditional Andalucían feature: a statuesque palm tree which is ‘de rigueur’ for any self-respecting country house. There are old-fashioned, scented roses around the main door of the villa, a superb white rambling rose—it’s all so pretty.
From the courtyard you go through solid wooden double doors into an impressive entrance lobby.
The decor is elegant and classical with many fine ceramic ornaments set in shelves on either side of the fireplace. The furniture is solid and of high quality with many pieces having been brought from the Far East. All bathrooms have been recently renovated
From the living room, separated by an arched wall is the spacious dining room.
A beautiful big bay window looks out onto a garden planted with arum lilies (the lilies make a fantastic spring display of white trumpets), the horse paddock and olive groves beyond.
French doors from the living room open out onto the covered sun terrace which runs the length of the house. This terrace is furnished with a wonderful ‘total relax’ area.
This terrace is perfect for meals al fresco any time of day. There is also a full length day-bed for an afternoon nap or somewhere peaceful to read one of the many books on offer. Terracotta pots of bright geraniums and greenery make enhance the whole scene. This is an Andalucían lifestyle, as good as it gets!
The numerous mature trees surrounding the pool offer shade and home to lots of birds whose singing is like soothing background music.
The estate owners live on the estate in the main residence, but there are also two other rental cottages available. Each one is independent and there is enough space and seclusion for everyone.
The location of this house, and the estate in general, is in a particularly beautiful spot. The picturesque towns of Gaucín and Colmenar are close by and both have a good selection of bars and restaurants as well as convenient amenities (shops, chemist, bank etc).
The area is ideal for walkers, bird watching and horse riding. Days out to the beach, or the attractions of Ronda and its environs are all within easy reach.
The landscape in this part of Málaga province is something special. The roads from the coast wind up to the mountain villages surrounded by pasture land.
Location
Wooded Mediterranean valley with farmland. The early folds of Ronda mountains.
Reached by a 400-metre rural track from the country road between Gaucin and El Colmenar. All you need is an ordinary car (avoiding lowest category car rentals with very low engine, or low-slung sports cars).

There were four of us who stayed at the farmhouse and there wasn't a single day that we didn't feel glad to be there. There is so much to do, including hiking, walking, visiting the beautiful villages in the area - or just enjoying the view while dipping our feet in the pool. Alice Murray-Jones was welcoming and helped makes us feel at home, giving us an interesting history of the hacienda and the surrounding property. We loved the entire experience and hope to return."
+ Read moreBeautiful house and setting - stunning courtyard and pool area - outside living area was superb.kitchen well equipped and functioned well. Pool was great but hard to keep clear of leaves - it was quite windy whilst we were there. ….and the steps in to the shallow end were narrow and tricky for older people. Loved seeing and hearing the goats every day. All in all a pretty perfect holiday house."
