Overview
Set amid 54 acres of mountainside, this studio villa is one of four.
While it’s unusual for us here at Rustical Travel to offer pint-sized properties with shared facilities, we felt that this one had something special to offer our guests.
We picked our favorite of the one-bed casitas; and this one – Margarita was chosen thanks to her tantalizing private terrace.
While the apartments may not match luxury expectations, we found the rustic nature – especially against the dramatic setting carried an air of romance.
Despite the simple feel, the apartment offers some good solid features; AC is more than welcome in the summer months, the shower room has been recently refurbished, and the thoughtful touches like getting breakfast delivered to your door are not to be sniffed at.
As mentioned, the terrace is also a good calling card – great for balmy evenings watching the changing light over the mountains and pool.
Regardless of the property, it’s the estate that truly makes this a magical spot.
Sitting at the foot of a climbing limestone mountain, the enclave is purely Mediterranean with far reaching views and plenty of activity right on your doorstep.
The large pool is a lovely addition to this delightful domain – with space for swimming laps or simply kicking your feet with a cold beer in hand.
For sporty guests; the shared tennis court is also three minutes drive from your door.
This simple set up could perfectly suit couples with or without a child who don’t mind sharing the leisure facilities with three other cottages.
In fact, you get good bang for your buck as often with hotels you will pay similar and have to stretch the facilities between more people.
A private villa with a pool may also seem tempting, but again – you pay more for the privacy of a much smaller pool.
Walkers will delight in the amazing trails that can be taken from the door.
There are even walks that lead you along prehistoric sites where the remains of ancient megalyths can be seen.
The whole area feels utterly wild and untouched, with eagles overhead and the deep cut gorges of the Grazalema National Park nearby.
Day trippers will find plenty of dreamy spots close by; the orange scented city of Sevilla is about 1.20 minutes away, and the wonderful whitewashed village of El Gastor is just 3km from your serene space; the perfect stop for an afternoon of wine and tapas.
Location
A gentle valley of the Ronda mountains, on the edge of the Natural Park of Grazalema, close to Zahara Lake.
Accessed by a rural track, 3 km from the village of El Gastor. Once inside the mountain estate, the final 200 metres approx. is a fairly steep unmade track to the parking area; all you need is an ordinary car.

YOUR REVIEWS
It was an idyllic location - beautiful and tranquil but not far from the lovely village of El Gastor which is charming. Accommodation was great. Only two small things - we could not get internet connection there via the wifi so something for other guests to be aware of if connectivity is important to you (it didn't matter too much). We were actually 3 people staying, my daughter was using the sofa bed - the property is marketed really at couples but it is mentioned that the sofa bed can accommodate a child, however, no extra bedding/sheets were provided for this. I did ask about it but no response while we were there. We made do with the coverlet from the double bed and used the duvet in the wardrobe supplied presumably for colder seasons to soften the plastic sofa cover. When we went it was a heatwave! The air conditioning was very welcome."
Rustical Update
Following up on this feedback, the owners confirm that they normally provide bedding for every guest and bed, including the sofa bed, and they would like to be informed immediately if this is ever overlooked. Regarding the WiFi, the router had been damaged but was repaired as soon as they became aware of the issue. They also emphasise that their local team is always just a message or phone call away and happy to assist guests whenever needed.
We really enjoyed the peace tranquility, the track from the road to the property should be better as there are quite a few properties dotted around, potholes and sharp stones make it a bit worrying. Overall the property had everything in it, always plenty of hot water, great having a communal washing machine, lovely pool."
+ Read moreLoved loved loved staying here for one week with my partner, great location, easily accessible with a car from Malaga airport. The villa and the pool, situated up on the side of a mountain, are surrounded by lovely nature. We were lucky enough to see wild goats coming to our pool for a drink during a hot day! The place is idyllic, perfect for a romantic getaway!"
+ Read moreInformation in advance was all very clear and detailed. The maps and directions were excellent. The house was as described in the literature. We didn't meet any of the owners/managers, all communication was by phone and text, but this worked well. It would be nice to have soap in the bathroom on arrival, for those travellers like us, travelling by plane and arriving on a Sunday when shops are closed. The supply of toilet paper was much appreciated! Also, a few better kitchen utensils would be useful for people cooking for themselves, better knives/frying pans for example.Given the remote location , it may be that, like us, people will want to cook proper meals. And more bin bags for refuse. But these are just suggestions. We'd certainly use you in the future."
Rustical Update
We have informed the property manager about the pans/knives so they can check them and replace them if some of them are too tired.
It was a wonderful House and everything was perfect clean and functionel. Cleaning and new towels and bedlinen after one week was perfect. It was at bit difficult to reach the house because of the Road, but we managed and there was at very beatiful view over the mountains, and we enjoied the silence. Perhaps at little bit far from the village. We will certantly return to Rustical travel again for booking holiday houses. Thank you very much for a superb service. Best regards"
