Overview
With its ample privacy, gated pool, summer house, oceans of gardens and views of the estuary where it meets the sea, family holidays are a big success at this smart, well-maintained coastal villa.
Once a 16th century friar’s residence, the villa is completely renovated. Constructed of attractive local granite, it enjoys a privileged hillside location above the harbour town of Combarro. It takes about 20 minutes walk to get to this pretty fishing village.
Surrounded by lush vegetation, you survey the wooded Pontevedra estuary, one of the major rias baixas (southern estuaries) of Galicia.
We liked it for its smart upkeep, gardens, very good pool, views and location by the sea estuary. As we found the living room a touch on the small side, and the kitchen is accessed from the outside only, we categorize the villa as a homely summer residence, where the accent is on outdoor living.
It has many qualities to recommend it, beginning with the location.
It’s very quiet here, in a rural neighbourhood of independent villas, and significantly warmer than the north of the region.
The local village of Combarro has small restaurants and beaches are close, too.
Children will love the pool and masses of lawned, sloping gardens, while parents will like being easily able to keep an eye on proceedings from the raised villa or the nearby summer garden house: a large barbecue and drinks room. The pool is fenced all-round for safety.
Of definite interest for convenience and fresh victuals are local vans delivering bread, fresh fish and fruit, which all call by in the neighbourhood, a toot on the horn announcing their arrival.
An automatic security gate opens to a gravel drive with private parking. Two entrances to the house then take us into a separate well-equipped kitchen, or the living-dining room, which is comfortable if somewhat limited in capacity for six people.
The kitchen is adjacent but independent from the rest of the house. The living room has wooden stairs up to the bedrooms, which are also accessed from an outdoor stone staircase: generally speaking, an easier and nicer way of getting to and fro.
The bedrooms are good size, rustic and inviting, while their en suite bathrooms are smallish. Each has TV (Spanish channels only), central heating and heated towel rails, and two of them have balconies.
The outside areas with the views and semi-tropical trees, date palm, orange and fig, make this into a very complete villa.
The rolling garden lawn is an open invitation to children to run and play, with the mosaic-tiled swimming pool below being the biggest draw. It’s fenced and gated for safety and has a splash pool for little ones. The salt-filter system makes it especially child-friendly: no need for sore eyes from chlorine.
Close by is an excellent, independent summer house with windows out to the pool and garden: the ideal place for getting together for meals and snacks. It has its own kitchenette with barbecue, fridge and sink and a covered porch with garden furniture.
The seaside town of Combarro lies just below, it is very short driving distance or just a stroll. Here you will find shops, restaurants and the harbour where yachts and pleasure boats are moored. A free added extra at this villa is the private use of a mooring here: so if you hire a motor boat (you don't need a licence or experience) for a day or two, you can tie the boat up here. Otherwise, it's nice to just stroll along the quayside and enjoy drinks at a café terrace on the waterside.
There’s a first-rate beach 15 minutes from the villa and exploring by car will bring you to many more sandy strands. Excursions are first rate from here: Santiago de Compostela, Portugal, the coast road, and Vigo for the boat over to the Cies Islands.
Location
By the Pontevedra estuary, in the Rias Baixas region.
Quiet and leafy residential coastal hillside, above the estuary and walking distance to Combarro (most services). In a neighbourhood of easily accessed private villas.

YOUR REVIEWS
We had a lovely weeks stay. The house was very comfortable and the welcome package was a lovely touch. We spent all of our time in the outside kitchen dinning area when we where not out exploring the area"
+ Read moreGreat garden and pool. Friendly check in and trouble free check out. Lots to do in the area for a week. Enjoyed our stay."
+ Read moreWe had a wonderful time. Beautiful property and gardens with great views over the Ria. Lots of time spent by the pool and a couple of restaurants within walking distance. White sandy beaches only 10 mins drive away."
+ Read moreGreat service from the agent, clear and timely communication about logistics and bookings etc. The villa was beautiful, wonderful location with great views to the sea. It was well-equipped and everything was super clean. Fran was great, very friendly and warm, not much English spoken but we understood each other. He was very good at coming to replace a non-working tv on the same day. Villa was extremely spacious for a family of 4, we all loved the garden and pool area, and especially Herman the robot lawnmower who just pootled away every day keeping the lawn immaculate. Kitchens (yes, 2!) were well-equipped and there were some food essentials like bread, milk, ham, cheese, wine and fruit when we arrived. Some reviewers mentioned barking dogs but we didn’t hear unduly noisy dogs, just a very chatty rooster some parts of the day. There’s a short hike from the villa to a nearby waterfall and Combarro town was a few minutes drive away. We had a fantastic holiday in such a beautiful villa and location, thank you so much! Would love to come back."
+ Read moreA super house for a brilliant holiday in Galicia. The house was ideal for our family and we enjoyed the pool and bbq area a lot! Easy drive to local towns and beaches. Highly recommended."
+ Read moreAG23 Stepping over the threshold of the villa reminded me of entering the Greek Temples at Paestum in Italy, the threshold is designed to be difficult as the temple is the House Of God and not designed for mere mortals. The living room is a disappointment with only a two seater sofa and two armchairs, not good enough for a villa for six people. The window overlooks the garden but is smaller than the window in my toilet, and smaller than the windows in a prison cell, and like the prison cell it did not open. The bedroom and bathrooms are fine if dark and need the lights on all the time. Two kitchens sounds generous if eccentric but it is actually quite inconvenient. The large barbecue area in one kitchen is unusual, and after a little thought you realise why you wouldn't have this at home where kitchen's by law are fitted with smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors, both of which would alarm with the barbecue. After one barbecue, one of our party had a severe headache symptomatic of carbon monoxide poisoning, so it was not used again. The pool and gardens are lovely, the surroundings are lovely, the hill up from the coast was a challenge to elderly walkers and the younger cyclists. Local restaurants we lovely and welcoming, there were so many local festivals and beautiful beaches and the Albarino was wonderful and we are still enjoying the cases we brought home. Kind regards Richard Barrett"

+ Read moreWe had a wonderful time in the villa. The garden was immaculate, and we enjoyed figs from the fig tree (there was a lime tree too). We enjoyed the swimming pool very much too. Fran was very helpful and was very responsive when we had questions. We would gladly come back again."

+ Read moreGreat location, great house and impeccable service - thank you!"
+ Read moreWhat a fantastic experience! The property was perfect for our young family (two girls aged 11 and 9). The swimming pool was the highlight of the holiday of course, but the outside kitchen was a brilliant space for us to sit and eat, cook etc. The proximity to Combarro and access to the local supermarket, alongside the restaurants was great. We were also able to take in the fiesta the end of August. Fran was particularly helpful and we appreciated that he was close by if we needed anything. We headed to SdC for the day and found some great beaches along the coast. A great place to get away from it all. Thoroughly recommend."
+ Read moreWe absolutely loved this villa. It offers a beautiful chic home with three nice double rooms - two with balconies with fabulous views over the inlet and morning sunshine, all from the bed of the best room! Francisco was so accommodating with our very late arrival, and provided fantastic useful and tasty condiments (bread, ham, cheese, milk etc). The villa and pool were spotlessly clean and the garden room/bbq with fridge and sink were great. The gardens are so neat that you feel 5 -star all week! We also loved being able to run into the forest above within minutes and loved the 5 mile run to the top along shady sandy tracks. There a quite a few local dogs that like barking to each other in spates but this seems very Spanish and we didn't find it intrusive. No overlooking or noisy neighbours. Local Combarro is interesting for a wander down narrow old cobbled streets and we also went West to the Atlantic beaches. Thank you Rustical also for your excellent organisation and communication."
+ Read moreWe really enjoyed the wonderful situated property, the big pool, the beautiful garden, the summer weather, the nearby beaches, lovely Combarro and the areas around. Fran, our host, was absolute friendly and helpful. We all enjoyed the stay. Thank you so much. Hope to visit one time again."

+ Read moreAn absolute paradise- wonderful garden and beautiful house. Location good."
+ Read moreLovely property with an amazing garden and great for relaxing. Bit further from Combarro than anticipated - you need to drive anywhere you want to go."
+ Read moreAs a summer rental this property is lovely. Although the main building is small, this is offset by the large garden room, which is great as a dinning room, and has an excellent parilla. The gardens and pool area are beautiful, kept immaculately and are very private. The host is a very nice man, and when we had a problem with a toilet he had it fixed immediately."
+ Read moreGarden and pool area was very spacious and well kept. House had lots of character with lovely views from the balcony."
+ Read moreThe Villa was just what we expected. The outside kitchen worked so well with the pool and a few BBQs were enjoyed there. The views from the 2 bedrooms we used was beautiful especially in the early mornings and late evenings. We walked to the sea front in the evenings and enjoyed a few meals there. The walk is not too far if you are reasonably fit as it’s up hill on the way back but we enjoyed the excersise. We met Fran at the hotel as instructed he then took us to the Villa. When we arrived, he explained everything to us, his English was quite good we could understand him, he showed us where everything was and how to use the equipment. The pool was cleaned at night by a machine that was easy to operate. There was woman who came and did a clean and bed change mid week which was a bonus, she was very nice and helpful. One of our party had an accident and broke a window just before she arrived, she let Fran know and was concerned about the person not the window which was reassuring. We loved it there and if we were to go the that area again I’d definitely stay at the Villa. Thanks you for a lovely week in Galicia."
+ Read moreWhat a marvellous house! We absolutely loved our stay here. The house is beautiful, very comfortable with wonderful views. The garden is gorgeous and the swimming pool is a real luxury. The owner extremely kindly left some food and drink to welcome us. Combarro is a lovely village. We would really recommend a visit to this house."
+ Read moreExcellent service from Rustica Travel prior to our holiday, Any questions we had were always answered very quickly. Very clear instructions which made our arrival to the property very smooth. Fran, the owner, showed us the property and explained how everything worked. Fran is running a hotel nearby in case of any questions/issues. The property is a little haven. Beautiful stone house with an amazing garden and pool. In the kitchen a generous welcome "basket" awaited us with wine, beer, water, fruit, bread, eggs, butter, coffee etc. The house is immaculate, very clear - with three separate bedrooms each with their en-suite bathroom. With 2 teenage kids the layout of the house was perfect for us. It's a beautiful region with access to many sights both cultural or beach. We will definitely come back as there is so much to explore. + Read moreWhat a wonderful place. It looked good in the pictures but it was even better in real life. We had a fantastic week at this villa. Prior to getting to the villa we had already spent a few days touring across Northern Spain and the plan was to use the villa as a base and tour out from there. That all went out of the window as the villa, the gardens and the pool were fantastic and we just didn’t want to move. Fran and his team were also brilliant and we had a really good laugh with them despite our limited Spanish and their limited English. All of the instructions for the villa had been translated in to English. The villa had been stocked with some provisions for us which we thought was a really nice touch. During the week there was a problem with the dishwashers (yes there are two) and both were replaced on the same day. You couldn’t fault the service provided. I was also highly impressed with the team at Rustical Travel. The communication with them was excellent and they were extremely helpful. They even got in touch with me just before the holiday to let me know that Wi-Fi had been installed at the villa."
+ Read moreWe had a fabulous holiday in this lovely quirky villa in a nice rural setting. Comfortable bed (we slept in the room with 2 balconies) and nice to have an en-suite bathroom. Fran, the owner, was very helpful and showed us around despite his very limited English. Combarro is a lovely little town with bars and restaurants although quite a walk back up the hill to the villa. Rustical travel made booking etc very easy. There were only the 2 of us so plenty of room in the lounge etc. which probably would be a bit of a squeeze for 6 if the weather was not good enough to be outside or in the summer house. Other people have mentioned the dogs barking - everyone seems to own a dog or two - as well as the kennels nearby, so there were periods during the day when at least a couple of dogs were barking away, though mostly morning and evening at feeding times. Initially it was a little annoying but it soon became part of the background rural noise and we didn't notice it. Kathy"
+ Read moreThe villa had an unusual room layout but this added to its charm It was clean and tidy and well equipped with a useful separate bbque / dining room The owner was very pleasant and quick to rectify any minor problems ie missing equipment We all enjoyed the garden which was beautiful and the location amongst local housing rather than being next to other holiday villas. The ladies spent alot of time around the pool There were very few restaurants you could easily walk to so we tended to go into Combarro (over a mile) where we were spoilt for choice The walk back up hill would not suit everyone but we enjoyed seeing the local area. The nearest beach was a car drive away and was really an estuary so not the best for swimming. The welcome pack was comprehensive but it is worth noting that local shops close many times for saint's days during August which can be very frustrating We really enjoyed the area and only heard English spoken a handful of times during our 2 week stay which was great Ou biggest complaint was the noise of barking dogs during the night which was a pity as the villa is located on a very quiet lane with no road noise except the locals with their tractors which was not a problem If you enjoy history culture and architecture together with good food (especially fish) and wine you will enjoy this villa."
+ Read moregreat holiday-beautiful place, wonderful for relaxing, good access for travelling around, only drawback is it's not really walking distance to the town for anyone not particularly fit-uphill all the way back!"
+ Read moreWe thoroughly enjoyed our holiday here. The garden is beautiful and remarkably well maintained. The bedrooms, though not huge, are characterful and immaculately clean. The property is well provided in terms of facilities and cooking utensils, towels etc. The summer room with built in asado makes the place and we spent must time hanging out there. The pool is lovely too. It's a twenty minute walk in Cambarro (and a thirty minute walk back!). People have mentioned barking dogs, sometime reaching an hilarious crescendo, but get the feeling that comes with the territory, and has to be taken in the context of the positives of a relatively rural community so near a tourist area. The local agent speaks no english as such, but was very friendly and helpful. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this property as a summer destination, maybe a little small for six if the weather was poor."
+ Read moreThis property is unique and has lovely views down the valley to the estuary. The gardens and pool are beautifully kept. Fran was very helpful, bearing in mind he speaks no English! We found several short cuts to walk down to the village which has an amazing array of bars and restaurants for a small historic village. Only drawbacks were the lack of internet (you can use Fran's hotel, but that was closed during our visit), Fran organised a special "router" which gave us limited access. Mostly we used a local bar! One other is the lack of indoor seating space other than the very small, dark and cold "lounge". When weather is hot that is no problem at all. The local dog kennels were noisy at feeding time, but then they usually settled down. We had a great relaxing holiday here, local farmer, bars and villagers were very friendly."
Rustical Update
The property manager informed us that, from June 2018, the property now has WiFi Internet.
We had a wonderful time at the property. The owner was relaxed and helpful and everything was in such great condition. The location is wonderful and very removed from bustle. A truly excellent find!"
+ Read moreThis property was stunning, with fabulous views over the estuary, pretty gardens and another fabulous pool, and the view from our balcony was just so, so beautiful. Whilst the lounge was quite small and the kitchen accessed only from the outside, this slightly unusual arrangement really wasn't a problem - the house was fantastic and we treasured our stay!
+ Read moreWe thought we should write to let you know that we had a very enjoyable time in Cambarro. Fran met us as agreed and spent some time talking us through the use of the villa which we found useful. The weather was as you suggested it would be - changeable if not wet - but that didn't stop us going out to explore and finding some good food. Once again, our thanks for your help in re-arranging the booking."
+ Read moreJust a quick note to say thank you for the instructions you gave us. and also to say that we had the most fantastic holiday at our AG23 and would consider booking it or something similar again next year."
+ Read moreAbsolutely fabulous. Two super kitchens, one in the house and one by the pool. The pool was kept beautifully clean and the location was superb with fantastic views and a 20 minute walk to the village and the sea. Lovely hostess and would definitely recommend this property."
+ Read moreAn excellent home from home. Thank you"
+ Read moreBeautiful villa, accurate information given on property, only one thing it would of been nice to of had a music facility."
Rustical Update
CDs do play music on the DVD provided. The owner has nonetheless now bought a CD for the villa.
We had one of our best holidays at this house. it has lovely views and is not overlooked. it is close to the beach and with your own pool too it makes the perfect family holiday. the bonus was the outside barbecue room where we ate most of our meals except breakfast. Although the owner can't speak english he was very accommodating. I would go back to this house very happily."
+ Read moreWe really enjoyed our stay in Galicia, the property was charming and the bedroom with two balconies light and airy. We didn't use the sitting room at all as it was very small and dark but the pool room was light and we used that a lot. Fran was very friendly and his wealth of notes in English made up for our poor Spanish. Rustical Travel notes and directions were excellent, thank you for making our vacation so special and we hope to holiday with you again in the future. Kind regards."
+ Read moreBeautiful house with a lot of character. Large rustic bed-rooms. Very large garden, well-kept, with good swimming-pool. Lot of privacy. Quiet surroundings. Nice view over the Ria de Pontevedra. Combarro, nearest village, is very typical and offers nice small restaurants. Owner does not speak English but is very friendly. This is, normally, a bed and breakfast renting separate rooms, so if you rent it whole will not always feel like one house."
+ Read moreVilla was lovely we had a nice relaxing holiday the only comment would be that the showers in all the rooms were not very good in our bedroom the shower head would not stay in holder I think this something that needs attention cause for the price you would a least expect a decent shower !"
Rustical Update
As soon as we passed on this message, the owner went to fix the shower attachment and ensure that the others were satisfactory.
